OHRISTCHUROH COEN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange reports for the woek ending Friday evening, the 10th inst. : As was anticipated by our last week's report, prices, in sympathy with London advices, have advanced from l|d to 2d a bushel, and are now firm at our quotations. All available shipping has been taken up. This, however, being limited, no difficulty is likely to occur in securing the necessary cargo. "Wheat Considerable sales hare been made, several large parcels of ex store lots having been treated for. Tuscan commands 2s lid to 2s lHd (holders asking level money). Pearl is worth 28 lOd to 2s lid, and huntws, 23 9d to 2s lOd. Chicken wheat has not been affected se much by the rise, 2a to 2s Id being top values oE broken lots, 2s 3d :o 2s 4d for whole wheat. Oats have not been so largely dealt with; 2s to 2s Id is being made for good milling lines, and Is lOd to Is lid for good short feed. Barley—The market for the time being is neglected, and last week's quotations are again applicable. Beans are beiog passed off at 2s 6d. Peas—2s 2d to 2s 4d for feed Prussian blues, 2s Gd to 2s Sd. Grass keed —A fair local trade is being done up to 3s for extra prime lines; 2s to 2s 3d is the average price fur farmers' lines. Cocksfoot: No alteration is noticeable, 3fd to 3£d beiug paid for extra good seed; 3d for second quality. Potatoes The market is still strong, 45s being paid readily at country stations. Dairy Produce—Butter is again in good demand at 9d to for good sorts; secod quality is, however, duU at 5d to 7d. Cheese has a good steady outlet at 3|d to 3£d fo- small sizes, and 3d to 3Jd for the larger sorts. The above prices arc those paid to farmers, and delivered f.o.b. Lytfcelton, sacks extra.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS

At the Addingfcon yards on Wednesday fairly good entries of fat and store cattle, w*th but moderate entiles of sheep. Eat Cattle A fairly numerous entry, the quality being r«ry varied from very prime to indifferent. Prime quality steers sold at from £6 to £8 per head; ditto heifers, from £s l7s 6d to £6 12s Gd j cows and light weight heifers at from £2 15s to £4 12s 6d, being pt from 15s to 19s per ICOlb, according to quality. Dairy Cattle—A fair entry of dairy cows met rather a good inquiry, lare quotations being well maintained. Fat Sheep —A moderate supply, quality varied, principally medium to very prime. The demand was good. Prime crossbreds told at from lis 6d to 18s j very heavy weights to 20s; medium weights, I2i 3d to 13a 9d ; crossbred ewes, at from 9s 9d to 14s 3d ; merino wethers, from 10s 3d to 14s 3d, being at from 2\ d to about 3d per lb, according to quality.— Messrs Matson and Co. sold for Mr A. Grant, 6 crossbred wethers at 18s, and 4 crossbred ewes at 15s; for Mr J. Gk Euddenklau, 31 crossbred wethers at 14s lOd, and 30 at 14s 5d , for Mr W. Ackroyd, 60 crossbred wethca at 14s 9d to 16s 9d. Store Sheep—Not a large entry. Crossbred ewes in lamb sold at from 9s 6d to lis j a line of mixed crossbreds 10s 3d. Pigs—A large entry, lace values well maintained. Baconers sold at from 34s to 58s; porkers, 21s to 325; and stores from 8s 6d to 18s. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is ihe report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—Owing to the gradual rise in tne price of this cereal at Mark Lane, millers seem somewhat more anxious to do business. Parcels could now be placed on the basis of late quotations. Until present stocks are further reduced purchasers will not be inclined to operate to any extent at an advance. Prime milling, red straw, and white velvet, 3s to 3s 2d; choice tuscan, 3s 3d; medium (nominal), 2s 6d to 2s 9d; whole fowls' wheat, 2s 3d to 2s sd; inferior and broken, Is 9d to 2s 2d (ex store, sacks weighed in). Oats—The tone of the market has in no way improved since last report. Prime milling (stout and bright), Is U|d to 2s j extra choice, perhaps a shade more, but sales are few; short bright feed, Is lo|d to Is ll£d; medium and discolored, Is B|-d to Is lOd; danish and long tartars—cleau, fit for seed, Is 101 to 2s 3d; black, Is lid to 2s (<ri store, sacks weighed in).

Barley-—Only the choicest samples have any attention from maltsters. Medium is unsaleable for malting, and cannot be pluced for milling, for which there is little demand i here is no demand for feed. We quote prime malting, 4s to 4s 3d; medium (nominal) milling, 3s to 3s 3d; feed, Is 9d to 2s 3d (ex store). Kjegrasa Seed Machine-dressed, 2s to 2« 6d; undressed, Is 9d to 2s 3d (sacks extra). Cocksfoot has some inquiry, but the business passing is limited, at from 3fd to 4|d per lb. Potatoes—Stocks are still low, and last week's quotations obtainable, which are—For prime northern Derwenis, 75s to Ss<; southern, 70s to 75s (sacks weighed in).

Pigs —Scarce at 4£d (well-fed, 1801 b). Hams and Bacon—Former, 8d to 9d; rolls and flitches, 6|d to 7d per lb. Chaff—Oaten, 55s to 60s; wheaten, green cut, 455; straw do, 40s. Carrots, 355; turnips, Swedes, 13s; meal seeds, £3; black dust, 9d. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 403. Hay—Oaten, 60s; clover and ryegrass, 60s. Butter—Salt, with little demand, 9d to lOd (kegs extra). Cheese—Akaroa, 4d; loaves, local, 3£d. Honey—Extracted (in casks), 4|d per lb; drained do, 3£d.

Sheepskins—On Monday country dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought Is 2d to 3a 7d; do do merino, Is 3d to 2s 8d; medium to full-woolled crossbreds, 3s 9d to 5s LOd ; do do merino, 3s Id to 4s 6d; dry pelts, 2fd to Is Id; butchers' green crosabresls, best, 4s 9d to 4s 3d; medium 3s 9d to 38 3d; quarter backs, 3s Id; green merinos, 2s lid to 3s Id; lambskins, to 4s 3d. Hides —There is no quotable alteration to note in values. Inferior aud bulls', l£d to 2d ; light, 2-Jd to 2|d ; medium, 2|d to 3Jd; heavy woights, 3|d to 3|d per lb. Talloiv—All lots coming to hand are being easily placed. Prime rendered mutton, 18s to 19a; medium to good, 15s 6d to 17s; inferior and mixed, 13s to 14s 6d. Eough fat is in good request —inferior at 8s lo 9s; medium to good, 9s 6d to lis 6d; best caul, 12s to 13s per cwt.

DUNEUIM STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :

Fat Cattle ample for the requirements of the trade. Prices were about the same as last wtek. Best bullocks brought from £S to £lO 2s 6d (one special animal £lol2s 6d); ordinary, £6 10s to £7 Lss; light and inferior, £3 10s to £5 15s.

Pat Sheep-Only 1583 came forward, For this small number there was very busk competition at prices from Is 6d to 2s a head better than were current last week. Prime crossbred wethers brought from 15a Gd to 17s 3d; ordinary, 14s to 15s; light, lis 6d to 13s 6d; prime crossbred ewes, 13s to 15s; medium, lis 6d to 12s 6d; light 10a to Us. Pigs Only 92 penned, most of them porkerß. Prices obtained were decidedly in advance of those current a week ago.—Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold extra heaty weights, 1 at 858, and lat 82s 6d; 28 porkers at from 33s to 225; slips at from 16s to 18s 6d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, August 9. Potatoes dull; Warnambools are quoted at 60s; Ballarati, 65s to 70s; New Zealand, 70s to 755; Tasmaniaus, 755. Onions, £7 ss. Milling wheat is in fair demand; New Zealand, 3s 4d ; local, 3s 6d to 3s 8d; chick wheat, Is 9d. Milling oats, 2s 6d ; best seed oats, 2s 2d to 2s 4d. Barley, fair samples are quoted nominally at 2s 9d to 3s; English feed, 3s; malting, 4s 6d. Bran dull, local Borts, 9|d to lOd; New Zealand, 9£d to 9|,d. Pollard is in good demand ; local sorts, lOd; New Zealand, 9|d. Butter, locally made, Is 6d to Is 9d; imported, Is 3d to Is sd. Cheese, Gd to 7d.

Melbouene, August 9. Wheat, 3s 5d to 3s 7d. Flour, stone made, £7los 6d; relier made, £B. Oats, 3a 2R Maize, 3s 6d. Bran, 9d. Hops are advancing. Adelaide, August 9. Wheat is unchanged. Flour, stone made, £7 ss; roller made, £8 ss. Bran, B|d. Pollard, B|d. New Zealand oats, duty paid, 3s 4d to 3s 6d.

ENGLISH MARKETS. London, August 7. Fourteen thousand quarters of wheat sold, to arrive, at 85s 6d. August 8. Nine thousand four hundred quarters of Australian wheat, September shipment, have been sold at 37s 3d, Five thousand one hundred quarters, August shipment, hare been sold at 375. The market is now quieter. New Zealand cheese is 525. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received Hie following cable messages from London, dated August Bb, 1888: Wheat —The weather is improving, and the market is quiet, New Zealand cargoes are worth 34s 6d per -1801bs c.i.f. The following telegram, under date of London, August 7th, has been received by a Christchurch merchant The market is affected by fine weather. Tour cargo is worth 345, less 1 per cent sea damage for seller’s accounts.
