On Friday, A message was received from the Legislative Council that tun Custorrs Duties Bill had passed through the Chnoaber. Mr Baetham drew the attention of the Government to an omission in the Bi I, the item " e'ectric appliances and machinery " having been omitted from the free list as ordered by the House.—Mr Mi'chelson said he should call the attention of the Premier to the fact, but the House cou d not now amend the Bill. If neefssary, a message from tbo Governor would bei brought dowu to rectify the error. Theie was another error—the item "bacon and hams," the duty on which wa« stted to bo 2d ll ad valorem" instead of "per pouud." —Mr Hamiin said that the latter was a printer's error. Replying to questions, it was sta'ed that it was not aivisable to alter the law in the d rection of increasing the limit of time from three rcoothsto one within which actions may be brought ag<inst Harbor Boards; that Customhouse officers had entered the premises of R. Sh innon, of Wellington, bookseller, and removed a large number of books, in consequence of tLe books being reprints of E-gbsh works imported fiom Sun Francisco ; that the French convicts had been brought south from Auck'aod oa the claim of the French Consul, made nnder treaty rights, that his evidence might be taken. Mr Mitchelson moved, without notice, that a Committee to consider the four Native Bids be appointed, consisting of the following members : Sir Harry Atkinson, Mr Ballance, Mr Carrol l , Sir George Grey, Mr Graham, Mr Htblip, Mr Hutchison, Mr Kelly, Mr Moss, Mr Ormond, Mr S.rnuel, Mr White, Mr Parao, Mr Tai*haiga, Mr Taipun, and tha mover.—The motion w s agreed to, af er a short debate. The Tramways Act Amendment Bill w?s spoiled from Committee, read a third time, and passed. The Mining Act Amendment Bill was committee on a division, by 47 to 10, and after a debate passed Without amendment, and was reported and r«ad a third time. The Native Lands Frauds Prevention Act Amendment Bill, the Maori Real Estate Management 8.11, the Native L nd Court Act Amendment Bill, the Middle Islmd Halfcaete Grants) Bil, Regulations of Local Elections Act Am-nduient, Volunteer Diillshed and Lands, State Foreets Act Amendment, EHesmore Lake Ltnds, and Puhoi Settlers Bill were read a second time.
