GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A raesting ef this Commiltes was hsld in the scboolhousa on Thursday evening last. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (Chairman), J. Biordan, N. Dunlop, J, Mundell, C. E. Sherratt, and 3. W. Pye. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting \ v were read and confirmed. SCHOOL »UIIDIN#S. The Chairman reported that the subcommittee appointed to look into the state of the school bni'dings had prepared an estimate of the coat of making the school habitable for a short time. The amount required was about -£73. This estimate had been forwarded to the Board of Education, and the committee bad strongly advised thorn to proceed with the erection of the new school, if there was a chance of its being commenced, at once, as in the event of the old building being sold the Board would not be recouped for the outlay of the sum mentioned. No reply had been received to (he letter, and it was resolved that the Chairman should write to tbe Board, urging them to ; send out their architect ut once to inspect tbe roof of the present building, as in the event of rain coming on the school could not be used. fume. Two tenders were received for tho supply of fuel for the year, via; ; R, Morrison, wood 20a per cord, Newcastle coal 36s per ton; N. Dunlop and Co., wood 20s p.T cord, Newcastle coal 35s per ton, Tho latter tender was accepted. JANITOR. Five tenders wore received for the position of janitor, viz, Mrs Gore, £2l 16s per annum ; Mrs Scroggie, £lB ; Mrs Wallack, £lB ; Mr Siouohoussj £lB ; and Mrs Sugrue, £ls 10?. It was deoiled to accept Mrs Sugrue’a tender, Mr Sherratt to draw up an agreement to be signed by her. J* CONCERT. Messrs Mundell, Dunlop, Slierratt, and the Chairman were appointed a subcommittee to make arrangements for a concert to be held in June next in aid of the incidental fund. VISITORS. . The school having only been opened a fortnight since tbe new committee took office, there was no report from visitors, and those of last month were reappointed.
DELAY. The committee expressed surprise that the incidentals for the month of April had not been forwarded by the Board. Owing to the non-arrival of the money, the committee were unable to pass their monthly accounts. The meeting then adjourned.
