PLEASANT VALLEY SCHOOL.

The Committee of the Pleasant Talley School having determined to award prizes to those pupils only who passed the Inspector’s examination, last Thursday was appointed for the purpose. The order of merit of each pupil was determined by the maika taken by the teachers during the year. Accordingly the prizes wore distributed as under;

Standard V.—Amelia Tatara 1, Narah Brophy 2, Maggie Buckley 3. Standard IV.—Bridget Mulvihill 1, John Brophy 2.

Standard HI. —Mary Brophy 1, Martin Brophy 2, Frank Guilford 3, Clara Beckley 4. Neil Campbell 5, Martin Gregan 6, Jane Miller 7. Standard ll.—Girl* ; Bridget Carrig 1, Gertruda Guilford 2, Louisa Trump*r 3, Minnie Meyaall 4. Boys: Andrew Lysaght I, Austin Finn 2, William Quaid 3, Joseph Buckley 4, Cornelius Mulvihill 5, Victor Howes 6. Standard I.—Girls; Emma Best 1, Margaret Carrig 2, Mary Bennett 3, Mary Quaid 4, Amy Backley 5. Tha work submitted for examination shewed on the part of the girls greet carefulness aod diligence, and on that of tha mistress, Miss Miller, great patience aod pains in instructing the sewers. Mrs Dun* lop, who vary kindly responded to the request of the Committee t» examine the work, spoke in terms of highest praise of its excellence, and so uniform were some of tiie pieces of work that the greatest difficully was experienced in awarding the places.

Shortly after one o’clock, the Chairman and a few of tha parents being present, the distribution of the prizes was preceded by some songs from the pupils, under tha conductorahip of the Master, Mr Meuziea, after which, the Chairman having pre-. faced the proceedings by a few remarks explanatory of the mode in which the prizes were awarded, handed to each pupil his or 0 her prize, giving to each a few words f encouragement. At the close of the prize giving, Mr Menzieg called upon the children to shew limp appreciation of tlao Cotnrpiitoe , ii generosity, Mr Brophy than called for three cheers for the teachers, which were heartily given, and the proceedings closed with a song from the children, “ The Indian Warrior’s Grave.’’
