TOWN BOARDS.

GE-lALDINE. A special meejiiH' of ibis Beard was hel i in the Board’s office on Tuesday for the purpoee of receiving and dealing with several tender* which had been invited. Present— Meier* B. H. Poarpoint (Chairman), W. B. Maslin, N. Dunlop, W. Berry, B- Taylor, J. Mundell, and J. A. Quin. SPECIFICATIONS. Before opening the tenders it was decided that in future all specification* prepared by the Overseer be approved of by the Work* Committee before being open to the public. TKHDKKB. The following tenders were then opened and dealt with:— Sections No. 4,6, 6, and 7, containing KJa 2r 18p—W. King, 16* 6d per acre (accepted) ; W. S. Madin, 16s j M. Connolly, 10* 6d ; J. Mundell, B*. Market reierve—GK Bethnne, 10s per acre (accepted). Bor lighting the lamps for twelve months —T. Herlihy, £SO ;W. Ot. Sherratt, £62. Mr Herlihy’* (the present lamplighter) tender was accepted, subject to hi* being paid pro rata for any extra lamps the Board may erect. It was decided to do away with the tin lamps now in me, and it was left in the hand* of the Works Committee to obtain new lamps and glass founts. It was also decided to rescind the resolution passed at a previous meeting re not letting the small park. The Board then resolved itself into a DOMAIN BOABD. One tender was received for leasing the Bush reierve, namely, T. Taylor at 4a per acre, which was accepted. It vat decided that all firewood, post* and stakes should be got out of the newly-fenced bush and sold by auction. The month's extension of time allowed to the contractors for completing] the fencing nf the bash having expired, the Overseer was instructed to give the contractors notice that the penalty for non-completion ot contract will be enforced. The meeting then terminated. ABOWHENUA. A meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present —Messrs Lee (Chairman), Austin, Edgeler, Story, and Froudleok. KnrcrrEs. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. DEPUTATION. Mr A. Bussell waited on the Board in reference to the erection of lamps—one at the corner near Mr Lee’s store, and one near the Catholic Church. He did not advocate it because he lived there, but because he saw a great necessity tor it. The Chairman said it was suggested to him to make it a Jubilee Lamp. He thought they ought to make a collection and erect it. In reply to a question the Clerk said the amount in the Bank was £6l 2s 6d, and the amount to pay that night was £2B. Mr Bdgeler suggested to get up a gift auction. He would give a pair of specimen trees. On the motion of Mr Story, seconded by Mr Austin, it was resolved to erect • lamp at the corner near the Catholic Church. Mr Lynch waited on the Board to support a request to shingle the footpathe of the roads that have been shingled. They were so bad that the children could not pass over it. . . .... After some discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr Austin, seoondsd by Mr Edgeler, to shingle the footpaths. Mr Lewis waited on the Board and stated that he had put the required quantity of shingle on Alexander street, but the contract was not paying him- He asked to be allowed a little more. The road was cat up through trsfilo, and it was through this the extra shingle was required. It was decided not to entertain Mr Lewis’ application, OOERB3FONDENOB. Letter* were read from the County Council stating that the Board’s contribution to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the year ending Slot March, 1888, was £Bl6s B}d, and claiming £4 18* 4sd for the onnenfc half-year.—lt was decided to pay the amount required. From Mr B. Williams, offering £8 for reserves 1705 and 2741, containing one acre. From Mr W. Fawdray, offering £2 5s for the same reserves. From Mr J. Daily, offering £2loa same reserves, and 15s 6d for reserve 1701, area 2 roods 32 perches,—lt was decided to accept Mr Daily’s tender provided he take the reserve* from the same time as the other tender*. ... The copy of a letter received by the County Council wae read. It was to the effect that £BO Is 7d was to the credit of the Council on account of land sold in the Village Settlement of Arowhenua. In the course of conversation it appeared that this money cannot be got until the law is altered, and it was decided to write to Mr Bolleiton requesting him to see to it. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2B were passed for payment. OfBIISEEE’a BJtfOET. The Overseer reported that during the past month he had employed one man three days clearing out water tables, and another 6 days spreading shingle. Owing to web weather the contractor was not getting on rapidly with his contract, bnt four or five days would enable him to finish. A few places required shingling. It was decided to authorise the Overseer to carry out any necessary repairs. The meeting then adjourned.
