INTERVIEW. Mr J. S. Waite interviewed the Board with regard to le ising the section and cottage belonging to the Board at the corner of the Cemetery road. Mr Waite stated that if the Board leased him the section for three years he would pat up a place of business at the corner, if the Board would grant him either compensation for the building at the end of the time or allow him to remove the same. The Overseer was instructed to write to the Qon. the Colonial Secretary, requefting that the various reserves under the control of the Board be vested in the Board. The Overseer stated that the Board had previously called the attention of the Colonial Secretary to the subject, asking him to have the Board's reserves vested in them. The Government, however, had taken no steps io the mat ter. Mr Waite was recalled nod asked if he would be witling to take the section pending the Board obtai ing an answer from the Colonial Secretary. Mr Waite expressed his willingness to take the section on these terms, the Board promising to do what they could in the matter immediately. I CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with:— From Mr Thomas McAteer, Temuka, enclosing part of his rates for the years 1885-6, the sum of 7> being still due jfor the rates.—The Clerk was instructed to inform Mr McAteer that if the 7s owing were not paid at once he would be summoned. From Mr W. Badger, stating that he had forwarded one copy of the Ratepayer’s Manual,—Received, From the Temuka Road Board enclosing an account for one half the cost of maintenance, etc., on Boundary Road. —Received. From MrJ.H, Baker, Crown Lands Office, Christchurch, requesting the Board to indicate on the enclosed tracing the road referredto in their letter of the 17th which the settlers on Reserves No. 394 *nd 1650 had desired to have shingled.— The Clerk was instructed to supply the information. From the Treasury, Wellington, notifying the Board that the sum of £lB7 10-i, advance of 75 per cent, on account of’ subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1885, had been remitted to the Board’s credit at the Bank of N.S.W., Geraldine. From the Property Tax Department, Wellington, informing the Board that their demand for rates'under the Crown and Native Lands Rating Act 1862, had been received and requesting the Board to make a fresh demand in accordance with section 9 of the sain* Act, and section 23 of the Rating Act 1882.—The Clerk stated that the matter had been attended to. max’s road. The Overseer’s estimate of the cost of road diversion, Rae’a Road, was laid on the table. It showed the cost, including cost of land £42 10s, to be £339 13s 6d ; if shingle were used instead of broken metal, £290. To repair the old road it was estimated to cost £SO. —It was decided to obtain Mr Macdonald’* and Mr Rae’s consent in writing to clear the creek and to have the old road repaired accordto Overseer’s suggestion. DEFAULTING BATEPAIEBS. A list of defaulting ratepayers was placed on the table, and it was decided to issue summonses against Thomas Goodwin, Samuel Gould, Michael Quinn, and Vincent and Co, THE RANGER. Mr Posllathwaite proposed, Mr J. Kell and seconded, and it was carried—- “ That Mr Andrews bo given two months notice to terminate the agreement eiterod into between him and the Road Board.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £257 14a 4d were passed for payment. SMAIJt *IRDS’ NUIBANCB. Mr Goltman reported that during the month he bad purchased 1107 doz. eggs, and 387 i birds, for which he ba;l P aid the sum of £l4 2s, making a total for the season of 3113 doz. eggs, and 714 doz. birds, at a cost of £35 le 3^d. The Board then adjourned.
