IMPERIAL INSTITUTE.

The meeting between the Prince of Wales-and the Executive COTnmfs.sioners of the' 1 Indian 5 ant Colonial 1 Exhibition was held yesterday for the purpose of discussing the proposed Imperial Institute. Amongstthose present at ,the -meeting were theAgents-General of the colonies, Sir Samuel Davenport, Sir Daniel Cooper, and Mr James Thomson (Victoria). His Royal Highness in referring-1o the success of the exhibition expresssd the sincere thanks of the Queen and himself at the splendid response made by the colonies in forwarding exhibits and for the enthusiastn "displayed by the Executive in conducting the business of the exhibition. He hoped that the colonies would see their way clear to transfer many of their exhibits to the Imperial Institute, for which purpose the present building would be utilised until a parman-int building was erecto iat Kensington. He d welt ■on the advantage of such an institute. His Royal Highness suggested thit the offices of the Agents-General of the colonies should be located in the Institute. Referring to the Royal Commission of the Exhibition, he said their functions would cease early next year, and only a smail staff would be retained to settle up its affairs. Tho Institute would be inaugurated by tire Queen in person. Sir F D Bell, Sir Saul Samuel, and Sir J F Garrick stated that they were authorised to transfer to the Institute the exhibits of their respective Governments. Sir Arthur Blyth, Sir G. Berry, Mr J. Adderley, C.M.G., and Sir Charles Tupper also made speeches approving of the Institute. A small committee was appointed from the Executive Commissioners present for the purpose of sketching plans as to further development of the scheme. There was a general concensiisofopinionindetermin-irig'-execute the "wishes of the Prnce of ■Wales.- All present promised their assistance. The Prince of Wales, in bringing the 'proceedings to a termination,.again thanked 'them and intimated that an opportunity would be given for a final farewell. = ~-. . ;
