The Wo.iiugton correspondent of the Press telegraphs “ The New Zealand railway receipts for the first twenty-four weeks of the present year were only £436,348 for 1652 miles, as agsiast £468,768 for 1487 miles last year—i falling off of £32,000, the working expenses amounted to £328,342, an increase of £6000.” 4 . During the quarter ending September 30th, 60,296 z of gold, valued at £235,871, were exported from this colony, as against 59,3130 z for the corresponding quarter 1885. The Post-office revenue for the quarter was £44,888 13s 6d, as compared with £45,610 Ha 3d for the corresponding quarter of last year. . The Savings Bank deposits showed a considerable decrease, and the withdrawals an increase, as compared with the corresponding quarter of 1885. The deposit* amounted to £290,567 5s lid (as compared with £346,240 8s lOd), and the withdrawals £346,140 11s 7d (£308,838 7s 8d in 1885). The withdrawals exceeded the deposits stall the chief offices.
