THE EASTERN CRISIS.

London, Sept. 10. The Standard this morning publishes a telegram from St, Petersburg staling that the Russian Government favors the appointment of Prince Nikitea of Montenegro to the throne of Bulgaria. The Earl of Iddesleigh, Foreign Secretary, has summoned Sir Edward Thornton, British Ambassador, from Constantinople to discuss the situation arising out of the crisis in Bulgaria. The Great European Powers are at present engaged in exchanging views with regard to the political situation in Bulgaria. In the House of Commons to-day, Sir James Ferguson, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a question, expressed the belief that no Power Would act in contravention of the Treaty of Berlin. Constantinople, Sept. 9. Prince Alexander of Bulgaria is now en route for Darmstadt. He expressed bis willingness to return to Bulgaria in the event of bis being re-elected to the throne. Before leaving Sofia, Prince Alexander issued a manifesto to the Bulgarians announcing that he had abdicated in view of the Czar’s assurance that the independence of the country would be respected. In conclusion, he thanks the people for their loyalty to himself, and urges them to obey the regency which has been established. The Turkish Government have issued a circular to the Great Powers inviting them to take action in preventing armed intervention in Bulgaria on the part of Russia. The. Turkish reserves in Syria have been called out, and considerable excitement has boon caused in consequence. Sept. 10. The latest intelligence from Bulgaria states that Prince Alexander has not yet started for Darmstadt, as previously reported, but has summoned the National Assembly to meet to-morrow, and intends to leave afterwards.
