GERALDINE RACING CLUB,
A special meeting of the Committee of this'Club was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs R. H. Pearpoiot (Chairman), J. Munde.'l, W. DeKenzy, W. D. B. Lawson, D. Denoon, and R. S. Cook (Secretary). The minutes ot the previous special meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated he had written t< Mr Dowse, Dunedin, re the handicapping, and also to MrJobberus, who, bethought, could explain verbilly to Mr Dowse imposition of affairs. Mr Dowse had writtbi. confirming the handicaps. The priocip»l business would be the filling up of the racant offices, and also to discuss the mode of selling the privileges. He had received a letter from Mr Taylor, apologising for his absence, snd expressing his opinion that the Club would be benefitted by their being sold without reserve. Mr Mundell thought it would be far the best to submit them nnreserveJly.
Mr Deßenzy thought it would bo a 8 well if the Club reserved to themsaWes one bid. The privileges and booths to b< otherwise unreserved. He proposed a motion to this effect, and it was seconded and carried, The following new Stewards were elected:—Dismounting Steward, Mr W. Deßenzy ; Totalisstor Steward, Mr Pollhill.
The Chairman and Secretary were appointed a sub-Committee to put the course in order.'
It was decided to engage the Geraldine Band if they could be got at a reason «bl. rate, and a Committee was appointed t interview them.
The fees for entrance to the saridlir» paddock and grand stand were fixed *t the same price as last year. The Chairman stated that he Imd ordered a rubber stamp for the use of the Club.—The action of the Chairman was approved of. arrangements between Messrs Mascn and Roberts re the working of the totalisator should bo adhered to.
The Chairman pointed out that the Licensing Bench had raised the sum charged for the booth licenses.- The Committee thought the price put upon the booths—£2 per day- was too much, and a deputation was appoiuted to wait upon the Licensing Bench re license fees. It waa decided that all poet entries should be made to the Clerk of the Scales. Mr Lawson and the Chairman were appointed handicappers for the Consolation Race.
Mr Mundell moved, Mr Deßenzy seconded, and it was curried—" That the Chairman be empowered to arrange re a special train, and that the Traffic Managers at Christcburch and Dunedin be asked to issue return tickets for the week."
Mr Denoon thought it would be advisable to advertise for a permanent Secretary. The Chairman thought it would be as well to either appoint a permanent Secretary, or call for applications. Mr Mundell said he would be in favor of calling for applications for a Sftcretary. ...Mr Denoon proposed-" That applications be called for the poßt of Secretary to the Ciub. The duties do to be ex* pressed in the advertisement." Mr Mundell seconded it, and it waa carried. This being all the busine&s the meeting terminated.
