FATAL FIRE AT DUNEDIN.

A fatal fire occurred in Walker Street, Dunedin, at six o'clock yewtenlay morning, resulting in the death of an old woman natued Mrs Joyce, better known aa "Granny" Joyce. She lived in a one-roomed shanty at the back of the Rising Sun Hotel and is supposed to have been sitting by the fire all night and then, falling asleep, to have fallen into the fire. The house, which belonged t« Mr Elson, was old, and burned very rapidly, and by the time the brigade arrived it was too late to save the poor woman's life. She bad, on several occasions, been an inmate of the Hospital aod Benevolent Institution but could not be induced to stop.
