UNIVERSITY DEGREES.
At Christchurch on Tuesday the, Hon. W. Roilestbti presented the diplomas to ihe graduates of ‘Canterbury College. There wore six graduates in M.A. degree's and seven in the 8.A., four of the latter being young ladies. Tho> folrowibg wrrs the graduates: M.A., Messrs H. .Cross (Temuka), IT. Yon llaast, P. K'me, R. Lamb, T. W. dowe, J. H. Wilson. 8.A., Misses A. Gresham, E. S, MrTsor, ft, Pitcaithly, L. M. Will, Messrs W. D. Andrews, W, Craddock and E. W. Wake. Ihe hen. gentleman gave an eloquent address urging the graduates to h'gh aims in life. At various points he was warmly applauded bv the students, who, however;r were-Uqh to 4he tradition of m .kirtg the dc 7, ?tf ; i" , ri'’one 'for a noisy demonstration. The applause was mingled with a.ilvoa on bells and triangles, and in one pan 'fvhero the speaker spoko of gieat results to Le achieved in the future, a cry arose .6f “the Wesi Coast railway,” accompanied bv a wild flourish on bells, a fantasia on a an ins^ii'f' monfHesemilling in’ tone that of the whift’e of one of the Union Steamship Company’s steamers. At the close of the address one or two stentorian voices were heard shouting “ Encore.” At the Choral Hall, Anck'and, on Tneatay, Bishop Cowie, acting for the Chancellor of the New Z r aknd Universitv', presented the University diplomas. .1.
