At the invitation.of the Governor some forty or fifty members of both Houses had a conference with him on Monday afternoon on the subject of the Tarawera disaster. Colonel Brett moved, and Mr Dargaville seconded, that a Committee be formed of the Governor, the two Speakers, and three members of each House, to consider the best means of affording relief to sufferers by the eruption.
