The party of colonial visitor* on a tear through England are now at Stratford-on-Avon,
Mr John Bright has received the degree of doctor from the Oxford University. Lord Rosebery opened the Federation Conferation. when a paper was read by Sir Alexander Galt, in which he urged the establishment of a Federal Parliament. Sir Francis Dillon Bel! alluded to the present wasteful and spasmodic system of carrying out colonial defences, and considered this wa* simply'due to the want of an Imperial scheme. Mr McMillan, of Sydney, thought it would be dangerous to rush into a particular scheme of federation, and held »hat the first step should be federal def uce. Russia demands that the Porte shall check Bulgarian aspirations, and the Continental bourses are disturbed.

A series of matches for the!cbarapionship will take place on the Thames on August SOth and 31st, and September Ist, in which the following oarsmen will compete Beach, Wallace Ross, Perkins, FeemM, Buboar, Kemp, and Matterson. It ia intended •to hold a scullers’ sweepstake of £2OO, with £SOO added.
The University of Cambridge will, on the 9th inst,, confer the degreet of Doctor of Law on Sir Andrew Clarke, Sir Geo. Bowen, Sir Robert G. W. Herbert, and Sir Samuel Davenport. The Australasian Ice and Cold Storage Company has been registered, with a capital of £IOO,OOO.
A grand review and ahara fight took place to-day at Aldershot, 15,000 troops of all branches of the service being in the field. The Queen and most of the Royal family, and members of the diplomatic body were preient, a special welcome being reserved for Royalty and visitors from the colonies. Ths proceed.’ ings were brilliant, and of an imposing character.
Mr Graham Berry and Mir Garrick have sent a joint despatch' to Lord Granville, Colonial Secretary, expressing a hope that he will urge that France should withdraw from the New Hebrides at the earliest psssible moment.

The Countess of Derby held a rsception to-day in honor of the colonial visitors.
The Agents-General, the Executive Commissioners, and a number of leading colonists will be entertained at a luncheon by Her Majesty the Queen on Monday next at Windsor Castle, Her Majesty will hold a reception for the colonial visitors afterwards. It is understood that the General Post-office are awaiting the expression of the views of the colonies regarding the tenders for the federal mail service before taking any action in the matter.
The “Groevenor Gallery’’ will Bend fifteen pictures to the Jubilee Exhibition, if it is under Government patronage.
Sir Samuel Davenport has been enrolled as a member of the Ironmongers Society. New York, July 2.
