BAUKAPUKA LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The adjourned meeting of this Committee was held at the Courthouse, Geraldine, on Monday. Present—Messrs W. U, Slack (Chairman), Dr Fish, W. Maslin, and C. 6. Tripp. CROWN HOTBL. The subject of the Crown Hotel, the license for which had not been renewed at the last meeting, owing to the alterations that were necessary, was again brought forward. Mr Pearpoint, on behalf Messrs Farrell (lessee) and Johnson (owner), asked for a further delay, to allow of the repairs being done. The parties bad agreed between themselves to carry out the necessary alterations in the shortest possible time. Tenders had already beea called for the work.
The Chairman said he thought the parties bad put the Bench to a great deal of unnecessary trouble. Mr Pearpoint acknowledged this, but assured the Bench that if they granted the license on that condition the repairs would be most assuredly carried out. Mr Tripp wanted to know when the repairs would be finished. Mr Pearpoint could not state definitely, as it all depended on the weather, but be assured the Bench that no time would be lost.
It was decided to grant the license, provided the repairs be carried out in six weeks. If not finished in that time, the license to be cancelled. WOODBURY HOTEL. The police reported that the Woodbury Hotel had been stripped of furniture on the night of 13th June by the licensee, Thomas Dooley, who had obtained a license at the last sitting of the Committee, and asked the Bench to suspend the license until the house was refurnished. Mr Raymond appeared for the owners, Messrs Taylor and Flatman, and stated their willingness to refurnish the horse and place a suitable man in possession. As Mr Dooley had since bscoms'a bankrupt, the Bench thought that probably the Deputy Assignee would make a claim for the license to be included in the assets. Mr Raymond thought this would not be done, and asked the Bench to adjourn the matter till the owners had time to refurnish the house. In the meantime the lice ise could be deposited with the police. It was decided to adjourn the matter for a fortnight, and in the meantime the Deputy Assignee be communicated wir.h. In the event of hie offering no objection, a license be granted to the incoming tenant by two members of the Bench.
