A woman named Mary Ann Dixou stabbed a man named Harry Power behind the ear with a pair of scieaors when in a brothel in Chancery street west, Auckland, on Thursday. She was brought up at the Police Uourt and remanded. The man is now in the hospital.

Two actions for slander will be heard shortly at Wellington, One is brought by Mrs Woodley, landlady of the Bank Hotel, against George Leslie, claiming £SOO damages for slanderous statements regarding her character. Tho second action arises out of differences between Mr Richards, head master of the Government school at tho Lower Hutt, and the parents of childr«u attending the school. Mr Richards claims £SOO from each of J. H. Koiiverhill and P. Speedy, who, he alleges, made slanderous etntements at a public mooting concerning his conduct to the children.

A man named John Crilly was found cead close to Kingston railway laht Tuesday night at tho bridge near Wintcn, Southland. The medals and certificates awarded to Canterbury exhibitors at the recent New Zealand Industrial Exhibition, were presented to the winners at Christchurcb on Wednesday, by the President of the Industrial Association. The awards comprise 32 silver models, 12 bronze medals, and 85 certificates.
