CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. The Addington market on Wednesday was very well supplied with fat stock, but the entries of store stock we p e not heavy. There was a fairly numerous attendance. Sheep —The number of fat sheep penned was somewhat large, being considerably above the average. A tolerably brisk demand was experienced for crossbred wethers of good quality, especially for those suitable for freezing, for which purpose a considerable number were purchased. Second-rate and medium quality were not much inquired, for still, on the whole, late quotations were fairly well upheld, and little if any, alteration can be reported. Prime crossbreds sold at from 9s to 10s 6d ; medium, at from 6s to Bs. In merinos only one or two pens of inferior quality were on offer, and prices ranged from 3s 6d to 5s 3d. We quote the average price of mutton at per lb. Not many lines of store sheep were penned, and very few sales toot place, the principal being crossbred wethers in forward condition, at 5s and 7s 2d, and cull crossbred ewes at 2s 3d and2s6d. Cattle—There was also a large supply of fat cattle. Values fluctuated considerably, but for the better lines of steers buyers were readily found at satisfactory prices. There is no alteration to report in the rate for beef, and repeat last week’s quotation of from 17s to 20s per 1001 b, A medium entry of store cattle was yarded. Steers, in fresh condition, brought from £3los to £5 ss, and heifers from £2 7s 6d to £4. Pigs—There was again a heavy supply of pigs, but the proportion of first-claau baconers was very small, and it is only for these that anything like a demand exists, other sorts being almost eotirely neglected. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday Wheat—The market is very firm; choice milling velvet, and Tuscan bringing 3i lid to 4s o|d; medium, 3s 9d to 3s lOd; prime red wheat, SsSdloSslOd; medium, 3s 6d to 3a 7d ; inferior and fowls’ wheat, 2s 6d to 3s 2d; ex store, bags weighed )n. Oats- These are in good request but without any material change in values, the quantity of short bright oats for sale being limited, the tendency is towards higher prices. Barley—There is a moderate demand for prime malting, but very little of thin class's offeriog, which would bring 2s 9d to 3s; milling, 2s 6d to 2s 8d ; feed 2s to 2s 3J. Grass Seeds—The demand for these in the meantime is dull and no business of any importance is passing, Potatoes—The market is fairly supplied, prices ranging from 60s to 65s per ton. Chaff.—Good quality £3 10a ; ordinary, £3 to £3 ss. Grass Seed—Nothing doing. Butter—9d to lOd for mixed lota of fresh, known brands Is to Is Id. Salt quiet at 9d to 9£d. Cheese—fid per lb for best quality. Eggs —2s 3d is the price to-day. Turnips—22a fid per ton for Swedes. Canots—4oa per ton. Sheepskins—At the sale on Tuesday, country dry crossbred ski«is brought 9d to 3s 2d ; do do merino, 7d to 3s 2d ; green crossbreds, Is lOd to 2a 9d ; do merino, la4d to Is lOd ; lambskins, 2s 2d to 2s fid. Hides—Light, 3d to S£d ; medium to fair average weights, to 3|d ; extra heavy in faultless condition, 4d to 4£d per lb. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted Fat cattle—The market was supplied with 126 head representing all qualities. Competition was brisk and prices realised were 20s to 25a per head above those obtained last week. Best bullocks brought £7 10s to £9 10a ; ordinary, £5 to £7 ; best cows, £6 17s fid ; to £7 17s fid ; light and medium, £3 10a to £5 10a. Donald Btronach sold for Mr C. M. Greenaway (Rangitata), and others, cows at from £3 15s to £7. Fat sheep -There was a full supply forward 3114 being penned. Of these 444 were merinos in low condition, but the crossbreds on the average were in fair condition, but the crossbreds on the average were in fair to prime order. Best crossbred wethers brought, 9s to 11a 3d ; one small pen lls 9d ; medium 7s to 8s 9d ; best do ewes, 8s to 9a 9d; medium, 5s fid to 7s 9d ; merino wethers, 2s fid to 5s fid.— Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr John Douglas, Waihao Downs, 300 crossbred ewes (stores), at 4s to 5s 9d ; for Mr Walter Hartnell, Rakaia, 129 crossbred ewes at from 8s to 9s fid ; , —L, Maclean (on behalf the British and I New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company, (Ld.) sold for Mr M. Studbolme (Wairaate Estate), 132 crossbred ewes from 6a fid to 7a. Fat Lambs There were only 274 penned. A few of these were prime and heavy weights, which under spirited bidding brought from 7a 3d to 7s fid, while indifferent quality ranged from 3s to ss. Pigs—Grain fed bac.m pigs brought from 24a to 40a, porkers at from 16s fid to 21s fid, and slips at ss. Horses, —Wright, Stephenson and Co. quote first-class draughts at from £2O to £25; medium, £l2 to £l6; good hacks and light harness horses, £l2 to £18; medium, £7 to £10; light and weedy, £lloa to £5.
