INQUEST.

An inquest was held at the Timaru Hospital last Tuesday on tho body of George Gallic, who died from the result of the accident at the Temuka Railway Station. Dr H. V. Drew gate evidence to the effect that deceased was brought to the Hospital on April 7th, suffering frona an injury to his leg which presented all the synjptomß of the main artery baring been crushed. There was bo external wound at all. Did all that was possible to return collateral circulation in order to save the limb. On the same evening sent for Dr Macintyre. The latter examined the leg and agreed that the treatment adopted should be persevered with, About 48 hours atterwards the earliest signs of mortification were apparent, and it wag resolved to amputate the limb above the knee. This was performed by witness in the presence of Drs Macintyre and Campbell. Ibe patient did well for some days, when he suffered from sloughing of the stump, but he got over that. The deceased progressed favorably for about four weeks, when pyremia set in, to which he was predisposed from the first. He gradually sank, and died on ihe night of the 21st. Deceased told him that when he met with the accident be was shunting a truck, and got his heel jammed in the rails between the points, and seeing tho truck bearing down upon bim, he wrenched himself round, and threw himself on his facp. Not being able to extricate his foot, the truck mn into him up to the buttocks, bruising him fearfully. Dr Macintyre gflve similar evidence. W. H. Alderton described how the accident occurred, and attributed it if the fact that deceased was wearing ■Uppers. Henry Rogers also gave evidence to the same effect, and a verdict " That the deceased died from blood-poisoning supervening on the injury accidentally received on the railway at Temuka on April 7th last," was returned* I
