Sir Julius Vogel, Colonial Treasurer, delivered his Financial Statement on Tuesday evening but owing to the abruptness of the ansouncement, there was nothing like the customary crush to hear it. The public gallery contained a fair number, but the other galleries only a sprinkling. There were about eighty members in their seats. The Colonial Treasurer was received with applause when he began his speech. Gzealdikh Races.—Tht Autumn Meeting of the Geraldine Racing Club takes place on the racecourse, Orari, to-day and tomorrow, the first event on each day starting at 1 o'clock. Six events constitute the bill of fare on each day, and though the entries for some of them are hardly as numerous as might be wished for they are of a good stamp, and some close contents may be anticipated. The Committee and the energetio Secretary, Mr D. McKenzie, have done all in their power to make the gathering a success, and have got everything in first class order, and as the weather gives every indication of being most propitious, there will doubtless be a large attendance of the sport-loving portion of the community. A Bolt.—An accident which might have proved more serious occurred on Tuesday evening at Geraldine. It appears that Mr A. Finlayaon, in the employ of Mr N. Dunlop, was engaged in removing the crockery from the Oddfellows' Hall to Mr Dunlop's store after it had been used at the gathering the evening before. The most valuable part of the load had been taken out, but a considerable portion still remained in the trap when the horse took fright at the rattling of the crockery, and dashed across the road, on the opposite tide of which it lost part of i's load. It then continued its mad oareer up the street till it came to the Good Templars' Hall, where it made across the footpath, and the cart coming in contact with the post at the corner of the grounds upon which the hall stands the hone and trap were capsized. It is needless to say that the crockery, of which there was about £7 worth in the cart, was smashed to atoms. A boiler was considerably dented, and the harness very much broken about;. The borse was not, however, hurt. When the horse first started a son of Mr W. Stonebouse made a plucky attempt to catch it but was unsuccessful. Mr Finlayaon was considerably bruised about the legs by the wheel coming in contact with him.
