GERALDINE DISTRICT SCHOOL.
DISTRIBUTION OT PRIZES. The annual distribution of prizes to the children attending the Geraldine District School took place yesterday in the schoolroom. A number of parents and friends of the children were present. The Rev. Goo. Barclay expressed pleasure at being called upon to distribute the prizes. It was also pleasant to see the parents subscribing so liberally t« procure the prizes and to notice that the school was progressing. Looking over a series of years he found that the Geraldine School held a foremost position among those schools which had received good percentages. It was satisfactory also to see the success achieved by individual scholars in taking scholarships. He then referred to the prizes and said they were awarded on the basis of the Inspector’s marks, and hoped the unsuccessful ones would be rewarded next year. There were greater prizes, however, than books. When they grew up they would have posts to fill and services to render to society. Some might become very useful, if not great, men and women, Mr Barclay then urged upon the children the necessity of being dutiful to their parents and teachers, and diligent in their studies.
