ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET,
Mr E. G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reports on the Ashburton Stock Market for the 23rd February aa follows :
About 1500 sheep, and small supplies of pigs and cattle, came forward. The attendance was limited, and the sale dull. Fat crossbred ewes brought 6s 3d, mixed sexes 7s, fat twc-tooth crossbreds 6s, poor aged merino ewes 7d, cull merino wethers 9d and lUd, fair twotooth crossbreds 4s 91, medium store pigs 12s 3d, There was Uttie demand for cattle, fat cows bringing £4 ss, forward bullocks £5 to £5 10s
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
Adelaide, Feb. 22. The Messageries Maritimes s.s. Yarra arrived this morning. Hhe brings Mauritius advices to the sth inst. Under that date Messrs Ireland, Fraser and Co. report that operations on the sugar harvest are nearly finished, The month’s engagements for New Zealand are : —Auckland, 600 tons ; and Wellington, 70U tons. Freights to Australia, 15s to 19s per ton ; ditto New Zealand, 25s ; exchange, 60 days. Bank credits—New Zealand, 8 per cent. ; Australia, per cent. The slock of sugar is 49,000 tons. The exports to New Zealand this season were 5000 tons.
ENGLISH MARjfTETS.
Loudon, Fob. 22. Tim wool market is dull in tone. So far 120,000 bales are to hand for next sales.
