PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY SERVICES AT TEMUKA.
The sermons in connection with the above were preached by the Rev, H. Clark, the circuit minister, on Sunday, January 24th. The congregations that assembled during the day were good, easpecially in the afternoon and evening; and the sermons were of a suitable nature, being both instructive and impressive. At the close of the day’s services every one appeared to be thoroughly satisfied, and to have fully enjoyed themselves, more than one remarking that the serV vices were of a superior nature, and that Mr Clark had been heard to great advantage. The collections which, were in aid of the Trust Fund, were good, the friends responding very liberally to the . appeal made to them on behalf of this I object. The tea and pnblic meeting in connection with this anniversary were held on the following evening. - Unfortunately for such an occasion it came on to rain during the afternoon and increased in severity towards evening, which very seriously militated against tbs success of the gathering. However, netwithstanding, a goodly number braved the opposing elements and sat down to a splendidly prepared repast. The Church was beautifully and tastefully decorated with flowers, ferns, etc., which gave it a very nice appearance, and also reflected great credit en the decorators. The following ladies presided at the ' tables in an efficient and ■ pleasing manner :—Mesdames Bryan, E. Ptattley, Woodley, Burton, Austin and Rodgers. The tables were very nicely laid out, and were loaded with all that could be desired for such an occasion. After justice had been done by those present to the good things provided, the tables were cleared sway, and the public meeting was held, which, considering the unfavorable state of the weather, proved very successful, the Church being comfortably filled with attentive and enthusiastic hearers. The meeting was opened by the Rev. H. Clark, Pastor of the Church, giving out a hymn, who afterwards called upon Mr J. Hilton, of Timaru, to engage m prayer. Mr Clark then, in a few well chosen words, called upon Mr W. Smith to assume the duties of Chairman during the evening, which position be filled in an admirable manner. Hearty and encouraging addresses upon various topics were delivered during the evening by the Chsirman, Messrs Metson, E. Prattley, J. Hilton, Captain Tyilliams (of the S. Arfpy), and the Rev,! H. Clark. Oqe of tire ’ mot£ successful features of the programme was a cornel duet, “ Look away to Jesus, M by Mr DuvM Bryan and his little brother
Arthur, which was mobt enthusiastically applauded by tho audience. A vote of thanks, embracing all thoae who had in anywise contributed to the success of tho Anniversary, was responded to by the meeting in a very hearty manner, and the Rev. H. Clark brought a most enjoyable gathering to a close by offering prayer and pronouncing the Benediction.
