FISHING AT MILFORD.

TO THE EDITOR. Sie,— -Having occasion to visit Milford Beach I saw a notice, and I came to the conclusion that it was a noodle who printed it. It reads, “ That any person or persons found setting their nets south of this notice their nets will be destroyed, and the person or persons prosecuted.” Now not many hundred yards south of the said notice is the sea, and, according to the notice, no one would be allowed to set nets between the notice ana the South Pole. Then again, the worthy writer of the notice has seen a little into his mistaks, and has crammed in in small letters the words “in this lagoon.” The notice is in the bhingle of the Ninety Mile Beach, seaward of the lagoon, and there is another object in the rushes opposite, supposed to be a counterpart of the one on the beach. Whoever are the parties conconcerned in placing the said notices there 7 What right have they to claim for their sport the fishing ground where men are trying to get an honest living and trying to open a fishing industry where the tide flows in from the sea ? And is it not a boon to the inhabitants of Tetnuka at large to have a supply of fresh fish for their table ? What are the poor people of this colony going to do if by-laws can be passed to take the living out of poor people’s bauds ? Surely there are plenty of waters in this colony abounding with fish for the angler, without monopolising the waters that flow from the sea ? lam, etc., A Lover of Justice.
