THE OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SHOW.
The attendance on Wednesday at the first day’s Show of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, was good, consider- ■ ing the high charges. The weather was glorious. The judging was confined to sheep, cattle and pigs, horses not putting in an appearance till the second day. No prizes were awarded for agricultural implements, but there was a large collection, In merinos (fine combing), Watson Shennan took most of the first prizes and special prize for the best ram of any age, J. Johnson taking - the prize for the best ewe. In strong combing the executors of A. McMaster carried all before them. H. and T. Little took the prize for champion ewe, and A. Murdoch for champion ram, tho prizes in these classes being well distributed. The Hon. | M. Holmes was most successful in Lincolns, and took the prize for the best ram, John Reid taking the prize for the best ewe. The Land Company were well up in the classes for Southdowns, the competition being principally between Deans and Garford, of Christchurch. Honors were about divided. J Dean took the special prize for the best ram. In shorthome,' Messrs Menlove, John Dean, and John Reid v'ere the principal exhibitors. Menlove took the prize for the best bull and best cow,. The Land Company were successful in the Polled Angus. A. and J. McFarlane were the most successful in Ayrshires, Rankin, Cowan, and Ferguson pushing them closely. Ferguson secured the prize for the best cow on the ground in dairy cattle, and A. and J. McFarlane the champion medal for the best bull. About 7000 people visited the Show on Thursday. The chief classes judged were horses and dairy produce. In blood stock Taggart’s Le Loup took first prize.
