At the annual meeting o f the Dunedio Caledonian Society, dnring a diflcussion on the balance-sheet, it waß Btated it was pretty certain that defalcations on the part of tho -mounted to about £I2OO. They extended over some yoais. The Secretary is at preaent in the Lunatic Asylum. The next meeting is expected to ba a prosperous one, as, from communications received, Bome of the best athletes in Australia are expected. The dispute between the Federated Seamen's Union, Auckland, and the Northern Stesmship Company is still unsettled. Tne Union will enferce their rules st the end of the month, and in view of the struggle the head office has set aside £bCO for incidental expenditure, besides expressing its readiness to make a special levy ou employed members, Colonel Whitmore will be a passenger to Auckland, where he inspects the Volunteers at a review on the Prince of W»W Birthday. Colonel Whitmore had the Wellington Volunteers out for inspection on Thursday afternoon. He said some of the corps were 10 per cent, short of strength,but thought the non-attendance was owing to the employers not allowing their men to leave.
