FIRES.

About 1.30 on Saturday afternoon a fire broko out on the premises of W. R; Parker, builder, Christchurch. Some straw in an old store attached to the d veiling-house caught fire. r The store was destroyed and the house unroofed and damaged. The building and furnil ture were in the'.Northern office for £350. —At 2.30 a.'in. on Sunday, a six-roomed house at Opawa owned and o Jcupied by Johii Butler, a railway servant, was burned down. .It was insured in the National Office for £3OO. Butler was, awakened by the smoke and had hardly time to save his family. Very little of his furniture, which was uninsured, was saved. It is nor. known how the fire was caused.—At a .quarter to two the suoe afternoon, two small cottages at Spreydon, belonging to storekeeper mined Casbolt, were burned. The fire broke out in ope of them, occupied by F. Davis, a blacksmith, who ,Waa absent at the time. They were insured, but in « hat office could not be ascertained.
