THE PROPOSED DERATING CLUB IN TEMUKA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I was very pleased to see in your paper of the 26th inst., a suggestion thrown out by you in reference to a Debating Society being formed in Temuka. Although a comparative stranger, I feel sure that there is plenty of debating pewer in Temuka and the district at large, well able to form a good strong Society, and well able to debate matters of public importance—both for the edification of those who might take part in those debates, and also of your numerous readers. I am quite willing to subscribe my mite if there is a preliminary meeting for that purpose, and I feel sure that there would be others who would give their quota to such a grand purpose, I consider in Societies of this sort we can all learn something, and I only hope that this may be the means of drawing some expression of opinion from others of longer residence amongst you than myself. No one has heard of these meetings not being beneficial to those who have had the privilege of taking part in them. And now, Mr Editor, should you or any one else think it worth while to call a meeting for (hat purpose, I would be only too pleased, as one among your numerous readers, to be present at the meeting,—l am, etc., Gao. Smith, Temuka, May 27, 1885.
