TEMUKA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting o! the Temuka School Committee took place last Tuesday evening. Present —Mr Gray (Chairman), Rev, D. Gordon, Messrs Blyth and O’Halloran. MINUTES, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE, Correspondence outwards and inwards was read. From the Board of Education, dated Jane 21st, stating the order for books would be forwarded early .in the week, and that cheques for LlO and L 8 would be forwarded to the Committee. From the same advising the payment to the credit of the Committee into the Bank of New Zealand of L 64 13s.
From the same, dated 2nd July, advising the forwarding to the Committee two copies of the Education Act for 1877. Also, asking for the vouchers supporting the claims for LlO and L 8 respectfully, slated to have be«n expended on tree planting and fencing. From the same, dated 2nd July, advising the payment to the credit of the Committee of L 7 12s 6d for High School fees accruing to Messrs Wood and Gurr. From the same, dated 9th July, advising the payment of L 8 2s 4d to the credit of the Committee for traveling expenses for pupil teachers. HEAD biaster’s REPORT. The following report from the Head Master, dated July 14th, 1884, was read : u To the Chairman, Temuka School Committee. Sir, — I beg to submit ray monthly report on the school : Number of pupils on Roll : Boys, 195 ; girls, 144 ; Total, 339. Strict average attendance : Boys, 144 ; girls, 101 ; Total, 245. Working average attendance : Boys, 144 ; girls, 101 ; Total, 245. Highest number present: Boys, 153 ; girls, 117 ; total 270. “ I enclose a cheque for L 8 7s 6d,' amount received for instruction in the secondary subjects. Also the sum of L 6 3s 7d, collected from the pupils for stationery and fuel. “ The teachers respectfully request the Committee to grant them the use of the large schoolroom, for the purpose of holding a children’s concert at an early date. The teachers wish, with the proceeds of the concert, to purchase some playground apparatus, etc. “ If the cost will not be too great, I should like a number of the desks, especially the old ones, fixed to the floor with a couple of nails, ag they are unsteady, which makes them inconvenient for writing upon—l am, etc., “John Wood,” The Secretary was instructed to return the sum of L 8 2s 4d to the Board as the same was incorrect. The Chairman anil Mr Blyth reported that the tree planting was progressing satisfactorily, and kindly offered to see the same completed. The Secretary was instructed to inform the Head Master that the Committee have much pleasure in granting the use of the schoolroom for the purposes named in his letter. Mr Blyth promised to hare the desks 1 screwed to the floor as requested by the Head Master. VISITORS. Messrs Gray and Blyth reported that they had visited the school several times during the past month, and found everything progressing satisfactorily. Messrs Gordon and O’Halinran were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS.
