Working average attendance : Boys, 140 ;' girls, 102 ;.;fota\i ; 242; Highest average attendance (Sept. 12th) : Boys, 149 ; average attendance, as,you will observe, is still very low. This is owing chiefly to the continued prevalence of whooping cough amongst the younger children. There is a number' of pupils, however* whose attendance is very irregular. Forms of enquiry have been sent to the parents, but in several cases no answer has been returned. I enclose a list of > the names of such pupils for the Committee's inspection. Enclosed is the sum of £1 1.2 s sd, received for school

requisites.' After consiubiiug the list of absent children annexed to the report, it was decided to refer the matter to the Visiting Committee to confer with the Head Head Master on the subject, it being understood that very strong measures would be taken to enforce more regular attendance,- Constable Morton's services being appealed to.

A discussion took place on the condition and opening of the new school, It was stated that the new building wbb now rapidly drying, and that the efforts of the contractors to stop the leakage in the roof were likely to be successful, very little being really the the matter with it. The Committee were unable to decide when they would open the new achool, as they did not know when the school furniture would be ready. At a later stage Mr Kirk suggested that it would be only right to celebrate the opening of the new school with a concert, and" at the same time something would be obtained towards getting prizes for the children at the beginning of the year, ...

The other members entered mosC heartily into the spirit of the sugges- / lion, and it was '-. i Proposed by Mr Kirk, seconded by Mr Brown, and carried—' That the following gentlemen be appointed/a subcommittee to arrange for a concert to be held in the new school building on Tuesday October 16th, viz., Messrs Gray, O'Halloran, Blyth, Brown, Rout and the mover.'
