AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. ' TEMUKA. Mi* K, F. Gray held a very successful sale of stock on Friday last at his yards, Temuka. There was a large attendance of buyers, from all parts of the district. There were yarded 400 prime fat sheep, 200 head cattle, and 6 horses, on account of Messrs Andrew Grant, H. : Nicholson, Thos Talbot, and others, The following prices were realised 13 fat steers at L 7 each ; 6 do, L 6 ; IS, fat heifers, L 5 15s • 17 1 store steers L 5 5s ; 3 do, LB Ids ; and 56 springing heifers atL4. The sheep not fetching- the owner’s reserve,, were; passed in. At the Winchester Fair, on Thursday last, there was very little business done, the only line placed in his hands for sale was 213 cross-bred ewes in lamb to Leicester rams, which were quitted at 9s sd. Now that the season is advancing, and trusting to favorable weather, he anticipates a better demand for store cattle. . .1 GEBAEDINE. Messrs J. Mnndell and Co, report salps of stock, etc., for the week ending Saturday, 15th bept., 1883: At their monthly sale of stock in the Geraldine Yards 'on Wednesday there was a large attendance of buyers, and prices realised in most instances satisfactory to the vendors. ; Judging from the number of purchasers and their desire; to speculate, they feel bound to say that the market shows a decided Improvement in values. Owing to the postponement of the sale through the inclemency of the weather, the entries were not as large as they hitherto have been, as the total yarded for the day’s ■sale were only 48 sheep, 18 pigs, 87 head of cattle and 10 horses. ■ The following prices were realised in the different lines of stock, viz. Sheep A small lot of crossbred hoggets, 9s Bcl. Store pigs, from 5s to 255. Cattle—Cows, springing, from £1 5s to £4 10s ; three year-old store steers, in forward condition, from £3 17s 6d to £sl* 15s. Horses—Medium draughts, £ll 10s to £l2 10s. At Winchester Fair, the following day, the totals yarded for the day’s sale were 278 sheep and 4 head of cattle, of which rheir entry was 48 hoggets and 3 head of cattle. The hoggets they sold at 10s.

At their rooms, Geraldine, on (Saturday, on account of the Geraldine Racing Club, they sold the privileges on the course at their forthcoming

meeting. Every lot was keenly competed for. Farm Produce—They sold at the following prices : —Potatoes, Derwent, per sack, 4s 6d ; carrots, per sack, 3s 9d ; chick wheat, per sack, 6s 6d ; Cheese, Akaroa, per lb,Bd ; bacon, 7d to 8d per IF; onions, 2d per lb. Other ‘lines up to last quotations. 1 TIMAEU, Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows ; Horses, —A limited number of horses was to-day booked at their yards for sale, and they report the demand much less than it has been for some, time back, and but few lots found purchasers. They sold an extra good grey gelding at LBS, a pair of good mares at L 42, and sundry other lots at about last week’s quotations. Sheep.—Store sheep are beginning to be in better demand, and as feed becomes more plentiful both the demand and prices will be better. Privately, they placed a line of 1000 cross-bred hoggets at a satisfactory price. Fat sheep—At the Washdyke, last Monday, they penned and sold 200 cross-bred ewes and wethers at 16s 4d ; and 300 crossbred wethers at 17s 3d, the latter being extra good. They have sold privately a line of merino wethers at good values. They quote prime mutton at 2£d per lb.

Cattle.—They have no transactions to report in store cattle, buyers not caring to purchase until feed becomes more abundant, A few odd lots were sold at the Washdyke yards last Monday, at about last week’s quotations. Fat Cattle—Good beef is worth at present from, 22s 6d to 24s per lOOlbs, at which quotation they have sold a few lines.

Clearing Sale.—On account of Messrs N. and W. Quinn, Makikihi, in conjunction with Mr Eickman, they held a clearing sale of their stock and plant last Thursday and Friday, the sale occupying two days, on account of the large number of lots to be offered. As already reported, there was a good attendance of buyers, and keen competition for.almost all the horses, which were an exceptionally good lot. They report having sold between 50 and 60 draught marcs and geldings, at prices ranging from L2O to L9O, according to quality, A Christchurch buyer secured the famous prize mare Parnell, at a Satisfactory price. Cattle, implements, harness, etc., all found purchasers at full values, AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, Sept. 14. Wheat remains at 4s lOd, with no business doing; town flour, per ton, £ll to Lll ss; country brands, LlO to LlO 10s. There is very little doing in the market. Sydney, Sept, 14. New Zealand wheat remains at 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats are quoted at 2s 4d, an advance of one penny upon last week’s price; maize, 2s lid; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, per ton, £35. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 13, At to-day’s wool sale 11,700 bales were offered. The tone of the market was,firm. Since the opening of the sales 17,750 bales have been withdrawn. The sales close on October. Sept. 14. Colonial breadstuffs —Adelaide wheat, ex store, 47s ; New Zealand wheat, ex store, 42s 6d to 465. Wool sales. —At to-day’s auction 9200 bales were offered. There was a firm and active demand. Sept. 17. At to-day’s wool sale the catalogue comprised 11,400 biles. The market was firm.
