GERALDINE ROAD BOARD

A special meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday the 22nd day of May, 18S3, in the Hoad Board office, Geraldine, Present Messrs VYm. Postlethwaite (Chairman), Wm. Deßenzie, and Frederick R. Flatman. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the acting-Manager Bank of Few South Wales, dated 9th May, enclosing deposit receipt for £3OOO for twelve months. From Messrs Gould and Groundwater, dated 21st May drawing the Board’s attention to the imperfect drainage on the road between the Woodbury road and the Waihi river. Resolved—‘That the Overseer attend to it.’ From Mr Michael Lynch, dated May 18th, asking the Board to lend him one of their monkey’s to drive piles at the Opuha Gorge Bridge. Resolved —‘That the Board will sell one, but cannot let it out.' From Mr Thomas Gregon, dated 21st May, asking for an extension of time (o complete his contract on Connolly’s road on account of the recent bad weather. Granted for reason assigned. From Mr T. H. Wigley, dated 15th May, calling the Board’s attention to the state of the roads near Opuha station and Beautiful Valley, and Sullivan’s hut. Mr Wigley to be informed that the work had been attended to prior to receiving his letter.’

■ From Messrs Mundell and Co , dated 21st May enclosing cheque for £2 lls 4d for pipes in drain in front of their auction yards, less the price of 14 feet, being the usual allowance by the Board. ’ Resolved—‘Tnat Messrs Mundell and Co. be informed that the Board granted the pipes, on condition that Messrs Mundell and Co. paid for them, and the Board to pay the cost of placing them in drain and covering.. From Mr J, Mee, dated 12th May, asking the Board to form the road to his section 30052 near Four Peaks, as he had let the same for cropping. Resolved—‘That the Overseer report upon the same.’ From.Mr Tripp, dated 17th May, with reference to big stones on the road adJ )ining his property. Resolved— That Mr Tripp he informed that his letter was read at the meeting, and dealt with by letter from Mr Tripp bearing May 21st, 1883.’ From Mr George Pye, dated 14th May, stating that ho has purchased section No, 2 in the township of Arundel, Rangitata, and requesting the Board to place his name on the RollResolved— ‘ That the Clerk obtain a plan of the township from the Chief Sur-

veyor, and if the property is in the district, to inform Mr Pye that his request will be granted.’ From the Chief Surveyor, forwarding plans of diversion of roads in the district.

Resolved—‘That the Chairman see Mr White, and get the business completed as soon as possible.’ The Overseer’s report was read and 1 considered, and the following resolutions passed thereon : main road to be attended to ; (2) The permanent repairs of the Orari traffic bridge to ba lefc for the new Board to deal with ; (3) The overflow of the Wailff river down the Geraldine road left for the new Board to deal with ; (4) Board approve of foot bridges at Hilton aad Geraldine being temporarily repaired; (5) Overseer to apply for a further instalment on Reed’s contract.

Accounts to the amount of £122 2s were passed for payment, Resolved—‘ That the first meeting of the new Board be held on Tuesday, the 12th day of June, 1883, at 10 a.m. The meeting then adjourned.
