AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.

Messrs Maclean and Stewart, of Timaru, report for the past week ending Saturday as follows :

Horses—About 70 horses were today submitted for sale. They have to report a good demand existing for young geldings and mares, and prices offering for these are fair values. At their yard? to-day there were a number of first-class animals yarded, and for these there was good competition, and prices realised very satisfactory. On account of Messrs Reid Bros they sold a lot of 8 mares and geldings, all good sorts; these averaged almost L 32 each, one splendid 4-year-old gelding, ' Duke,' fetching Lsl. On account of Mr Goodwin they sold a lot of 10 fillies, unbroken, very fair sorts, at an average of nearly LIS each. On account of various other owners they sold about 12 head at prices from L 22 to L2B for fair good diaughts ; from LlB to L2l for medium sorts, ordinary hacks and light horses fetching from L 8 to LlO.

Sheep—As a good many buyers of store sheep have satisfied their requirements, the demand during the week has besn rather easier, and sales have been rather more difficult to effect. At their usual fortnightly sale at the Washdyke yards last Monday they yarded about 2250 cross-breds and merinos, and sold the bulk of their entries at the following prices, viz :—l5O old merino ewes at Is lOd, 200 do at 2s Id, 350 f-bred lambs at 4s 103, 150 merino ewes and wethers at 4s 6d, 300 half-bred lambs at 8s 9d. At a clearing sale held at Otaio on Tuesday they sold, on occount of various owners, 300 half-bred lambs at 6s, 250 merino ewes at 3s 6cl, 110 cross-bred wethers at 9s 7d, 103 crossbred ewes at Bs, 122 merino ewes at 4s 3d, Fat sheep are somewhat easier in price, and present values may be quoted <it about 2d per lb for prime mutton. Rams—They have sold during the week about 50 Lincoln and Leicester rams at from LI to L 4 4s each.

Cat-tle—For well forward 3-year-cld steers and heifers there is a good demand at fair rates. At Washdyke last Monday a large number of store cattle came to hand. They sold about 100 head at, for good steers, L 4 to L 6 ; cows, L 6 10s to L 7 ; yearlings, from 25s to 37s Bd. Fat cattle—They have sold several lots at prices equal to about 20s per IUCIb.

Clearing Sale—On account of Mr Ellison, Otaio, they held a clearing sale last Tuesday of his f-tock and plant, which were sold at fair prices. On account of Mr Chapman, Waitohi, they held a sale of his surplus ttock and plant, 4 draught horses bringing over LDO each, colts up to L2O. A lot of about 70 pigs were disposed of at good prices ; 5 cows were sold at from L 4 7s Gd to L 7 ; 20 calves nt 17s.
