MR. MILNER STEPHEN IN WELLINGTON.

Mr Milner Stephen on Saturday afternoon gave an exhibition of his power to cure. The Athenaeum Hull was kindly lent for the occasion, and was erowd d to eicess, it being estimated that fully 700 persons were present. Among them was the Hon T. Dick, Drs Keyworth and Hutchison. No charge was made for admission to the Hall, or to those who received treatment.

On ascending the stage, Mr Stephen said this was the first opportunity in New Zealand that he had had of lecturing, and he wished to make a few explanations as to the power with which he had been gifted by the Almighty. He had for a long period earnestly prayed to God to giro him power to do soma wonderful or great work before ho died, and this wish had been fulfilled. He was formerly a barrister of these colonies, and ifc was while he was on Circuit in New South Wales that he suddenly became aware thafc the power had been bestowed. It occurred in tills utanner:—Mr Stephen wa.s at the hcuse of a gentleman in Sydney, who had been deaf for ten years, when the thought came to the former that he could cure him, and at once he set about t • carry out the idea, being successful in restoring heaving after a third treatment; He read several extracts from Australian newspapers of cures that he had effected, and also an affidavit of a medical officer of St George's Meibourno, as to his (Mr Stephen's) ability to cure cancer. Ho mentioned several other wonderful cures he had effected, the principal of which was the total blmdneas of a woman iu Sydney, who had been given up by her medical advisers as incurable, and that of lengthening a young lady's leg seven inches. She had suffered from hip disease, and this had drawn up the leg. After passing his hands down the (high, the hip commenced to grow two inches on th fir.»t treatment, three in the second, and then its natural length. The fact of him being endowed with this wonder ful power has reached all quarters of tha globe, and only a short time back he received a letter from a lady in Germany, aßking him to send to her some of his power to cure her husband. He denied that his cures were only temporary, and contended that they were even more permanent than those of doctors.

About thirty cases were treated by Mr Stephen .yesterday, all those suffering pain being the first taken. A lac'y was first to appear, suffering from rheumatic fever, dis« ease of the lungs and p»in in her-leg*. Mr Stephen made certain passes about the legt, and breathing on a piece of red ilinnol placed it on the parts affected when "the sufferer appeared to be considerably relieved. Her husband was then treated for epileptic fits. After having had his head stroked, he was told that he might have on« more fit, but that would be tho last.
