MR FELDWICK AT THE VOLUNTEER HALL.
Mr Feldwick addressed the electors in the Volunteer Hall on Tuesday. The meeting} was the largest ever held in Temuka, Mr A. Wilson was voted to the chair: Mr Feldwick got a most enthusiastic reception. He addressed the meeting for an hour tud a half, during which he was frequently cheered.
Mr Leach asked him if Mr Wakefield had ever asked him to support the Milford Harbor Bill. He-had not. Mr Mendelson then ascended the stage, with the intention of rn \king a speech, The meeting up to this time had been very orderly, but his appearance was the signal for tremendous uproar, and tho meeting fairly howled him down.
The Chairman took a show of hands on Mr Mendelson’s speaking or not. The veadict was against him. Mr Mendelson then asked several questions, \yiiich Mr Feldwick answered apparently to the satisfaction of the electors.
- Mr, : G ray proposed a vote of confidence aihid'great confusion. Mr Harrop cecdndetl the motion.
No one moving, a i amendment, the Chairman called for a show of hands, a large majority be’ng the result. A vc e of thanks was parsed to the C.iainna.j, amid some confusion
Mr 'Wilson then left the chair, after which Messrs Oox and Robestou took possession of the meeting, hut for more than an hour arterwa'ds they tried to address the electees, who would not listen to them, but-howkd them down. A comic song wr called for and responded by an individual in the room, the audience joining in-, Mr Rolleston again tried to speak, but siguaPfrifailed. As it was now after II o’clock,'lie go c, tired of it, and retired.
The meeting then quietly dispersed. We have never seen such a rowdy meeting in Temuka before ; and if Mr Mendelson had only asked questions instead of attempting to speak, the row would not have taken place. On the whole it W-J-s more a spirit of fun than a spirit of mischief which actuated the meeting.
