Rehabilitation Loans Amount To £11,000,000

Reaching a grand total of 16,976, rehabilitation loans authorised until the end of September were to the over-all value of £11,212,333, says a monthly statistieal review issued by the Rehabilitation Board. Of this amount £825,785 was authorised during September, the number of exservicemen so assisted being 1083. This showed a slight decrease over the amount for August, which was £845.351. Of loans authorised until the end of September, £10.672,567 was for retumed servicemen, £8443 for returned servicewomen, £414,846 for discharged home service personnel, £42,422 for merchant seamen. and £74,055 for dependants of deceased servicemen. Apart from merchant seamen, 15,469 of those assisted had seen service overseas.

Purchase of Farms. During September, 79 returned servicemen and one discharged home serviceman were assisted by way of loan authorisations to purchase farms, bringing the number of those so aided until the end of that month to 1197. The value of the 80 September authorisations was £278.680, making the total value of farm loans £4,083,969 for the assistance of 1165 returned men, 28 home servicemen, three merchant seamen, and one dependant of a deceased serviceman. There was a continued steady demand during September for housing loans, there being 146 to build houses valued at £203.865. and 232 to buy, to the value of £242,546, or 378 loans, in all, worth £446,411, compared with 391 (£457,468) for the previous month. Housing loans so far authorised were thus brought to 4860, their total value being £5.418,168, including 2586 interest-free supplementary loans worth £405,051. There were 235 of these interest-free loans (£35,508) advanced during September. Business Loans. Loans to set up in business were authorised during September to a further 98 returned men and eight former home servicemen, their total value being £55,364. Until the end of September, 1945, ex-service personnel had been so assisted at a cost of £923,546. Another 487 interest-free loans up to £100 each for the purchase of furniture were authorised during the month valued at £44.303. These brought the total cost of 8283 furniture loans so far authorised to £756,133. Interest-free loans to purchase tools of trade advanced during September numbered 29 (£797). The total of these to date is 585 (£17,833), while other miscellaneous advances so far made now total 96 (£12,684). Three of these, valued at £230, were authorised during September.
