Eltham Bowling Club Holds Opening

Although light rain foll all afternoon, about 100 bowlers attcnded the officiai opening of the Eltham Bowling Club on Saturday. No bowling matches were played, but cards were played in the club pavilion. The season was opened by the president. Mr. J. H. Fakc, who welcomed visitors and referred to the improvements made to the grcen and surroundings. He acknowledged the work of the greenwarden, Mr. W. D. Gilkison, during the winter. Present at the ceremony was a party representing the Taranaki Bowling Centre. It eomprised the president, Mr. J. Christoffel, New Plymouth. the secretary, Mr. L. Russell, New Plymouth, the senior vice-president, Mr. A. C. H. Gatton, Stratford, and a member of the executive, Mr. H. W. Bocock, Kaponga. Mr. Christoffel spoke on behalf of the centre. The first kitty was rolled by the wife of the president. The oldest member of the club played the first bowl.
