Plunket Society Meets At Patea

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Patea Plunket Society was presided over by Mrs. R. W. Haddow. Statistics included in the report for September of the relieving Plunket nurse, Miss A. O. Brien, were:— Babies under supervision: Patea, 77; Waverley, 71; Waitotara, 21; Alton, 24; Kakaramea, 21; total, 214. New cases for month; Patea, five; Waverley, three; Waitotara, three; Alton, two: Kakaramea, one; total, 14. There was a good attendance for the second anti-diptheria injections. Mesdames U. Walker, E. Chisholm and W. McKee were added to the committee. Mrs. Haddow was nominated for reelection to the Dominion executive, and also to represent the society on the housing committee of the Patea and district regional planning committee. Copie.s of the revised Karitane nurses' rules were received, and the new rates of salary whigh came into operation on July 18 were outlined. The Dominion council had decided to adopt the scheme put forward by the National Service Department for the better utilisation of the services of Karitane nurses. In order to implement the scheme_ the council proposed to set up Karitane nurses' bureaux in some of the main centres. The Wanganui nursery play centre wrote drawing the committee's attention to the facilities it offered mothers with children when they visited Wanganui. The resignations of Mrs. S. W. Hills from the advisory board and of _Mrs. Hills from the committee were received. Mr. Hills has been appointed postmaster at Waihi. Mrs. Hills was entertained at supper by the committee at the close of the meeting, when Mrs. Haddow, on behalf of members. paid tribute to the work both Mr. and Mrs. Hills had done for the society in their four and a-half vears at Patea. Che presented Mrs. Hills with a ctip and saucer. Mrs. Hills replied.
