109 New Zealand Soldiers Overseas Reported Wounded

Five Taranaki men killed in action. Of the 138 Dominion men whose names appear in latest lists of 2nd N.Z.E.F. casualties 26 are reported killed in action, one has died of wounds and 109 are wounded. Fifteen of the men have next-of-kin in Taranaki. They are: — Killed in action: Corporal J. L. Deighton (New Plymouth), Private H. R. Evans (New Plymouth), Lance-Corporal T. G. Gomer (Manaia), Private J. G. Hamlin (Kakaramea), Private A. M. Kerr (New Plymouth). Wounded: Privates A. H. Adams (Patea), H? F. Bishop (New Plymouth), R. O. R. Clarke (New Plymouth), T. R. Curran (Stratford), R. J. .Hills (Ohura). L. Reed (Stratford), C. L. Robinson (Manaia), H. C. Stockman (Bell Block). R. R. Taylor (Tariki), W. S. Whitehead (Urenui). , Private Kerr was the youngest son of Mr. H. W. Kerr, New Plymouth. He was 31 years old. Private Kerr was educated at the Central school and was employed in the hairdressing business until he joined the armed forces. He served for 18 months.iin the Pacific area and was drafted to the Middle East early this year. He was a well-knowrt badminton player in the New Plymouth Club, and was a member of the East End Surf Life-saving Club. His two brothers, Messrs. L. and C. Kerr, recently returned from service overseas. Private Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Evans. New Plymouth, was born at New Plymouth and educated at the Vogeltown school and the New Plymouth Boys' High School. He was employed in the Public Trust Office at New Plymouth but was transferred first to Masterton, then to Wellington, and later to Hawera, where he was working until he went into the army. Lance-Corporal Gomer. son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gomer, Manaia, entered the army five years ago and left for over- j seas about 16 months ago. He was killed on his 23rd birthday. Before ihe war Lance-Corporal Gomer was on the staff of the Hawera branch of Woolworths I (N.Z.) Ltd. „ . . | Lieutenant Keith H._ Cave, who has been reported killed in action, was a son of Mrs. I. Cave. New Plymouth. He I was educated at Opunake and at the ( New Plymouth Boys' High School. He was engaged in storekeeping at Kapuni, j later being branch manager of fenney s j Ltd. groeery business at Stratford. Before , he enlisted, Lieutenant Cave occupied n similar position at the firms Waipuku- | rau branch. He was interested in foothall and in cricket. He jomed the army nearly five years ago, and after gaining a commission he became an mstructor in infantry at Trentham. Lieutenant Cave went overseas about two years ago. His wife lives at Riverlea, and they have three children.
