Defence Minister Inspects N.Z. Troops Training at Maadi

N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.

Cairo, March The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, is spending the first days of his Middle East visit at Maadi Camp. Yesterday he was received by a Maori guard of honour and met the heads of the services and the senior staff officers, including the matron-in-chief, Matron Nutsey, and Brigadier McCormick, D.M.S. He was accompanied on the tour of the camp by Brigadier Stevens and LieutenantColonel McGuire. An inspection of the headquarters of the offices was followed by a tour of the training schools. He saw troops going through a special assault course, where thousands of New Zealanders learned close bayonet and rifle fighting. He was in-terested in see.ing the troops go about their dafiy training, and he endeavoured to meet as many as possible. In all his speeches to the troops Mr. Jones emphasised the attention the Governmenl was giving in New Zealand to rehabilitation. To-day he inspected supply and feeding arrangements. A slight shower, overcast skies, wooden huts and the New Zealand peaked hats gave a New Zealand atmosphere, except for the sandy background.
