Methodist Bible Classes Celebrate Thanksgiving
The annual thanksgiving activities of the Methodist young women's Bible classes took place at New Plymouth at the week-end. Visiting members, including those from Hawera, Stratford, Eltham, Opunake, Rahotu, Okato, Hillsborough and Taiporohenui, were billeted in the homes of New Plymouth members. About 60 attended a tea in the Whiteley hall on Saturday, followed by the annual meeting of the Taranaki-Wanga-nui Methodist Bible Class Union. Miss K. Ellett presided. Mrs. C. Baldwin, who judged the annual reports sent in by the classes, made the following? awards:— Senior, Whiteley; intermediate, Taiporohenui; junior, Stratford. A sketch was given by New Plymouth Bible class leaders. The annual report, read by the secretary, Miss M. Nicholson, said there were 19 affiliated classes in the union in 1942 with a membership of 180. About 116 of the girls were church members. Apart from the thanks offering, which this year amounted to £75, classes contributed £13 13s 4d to home missions, £14 2s lOd to overseas missions and smaller sums for various good purposes. A social evening followed the annual meeting, about 100 persons being present. A thanksgiving service was held in Whiteley Church on Sunday afternoon^ the Revs. E. D. Patchett and I. S. Williamson conducting the service. An address to the yOung people on the part they must play in the Christian order was given by the Rev. A. M. Niblock and during tne service Maori girls of the Rangiatea Methodist school chanted a psalm and a solp was sung by Miss Margaret Hamill. The treasurer of each class presented the class thanks offering to Mrs. L. Donnelly, union treasurer, a dedication prayer being given by Miss Ellett. k prayer for peace was led by the Rev. T. Featherston.
