MEETING OF COUNCIL REPORTS FOR MONTH Plans were in preparation for the new postmaster's residence at Opunake, and tenders would be called at an early date. according to advice received by the Opunake Borough Council from Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. The position in respect of the proposed erection of a new post office and of the selection of a fcuitable site had not yet been determined. . Resolutions in connection with the transfer of the newly-acqulred domain area, comprising the golf links were adopted by t'ne council, which appointed the Mayor, Mr. A. J. Brennan, and members of the, reserves committee to confer with the Lands and Survey Department in completing the transaction. In connection with the section occupied by the town clerk's residence which, through a misunderstanding, had not been gazetted as a borough reserve, the Mayor reported that following consultation with the Commissioner of Crown Lands he had arrived at a satisfactory settlement whereby an existing borough reserve would be transferred in exchange.- In confirming the arrangement the council recorded its appreciation of Mr. Brennan's services. A donation of £3 3s, an increase of £1 ls on that made last year, was granted the Egmont National Bark Board. No infectioua diseases were notified during the month, thus completing a "clean" record over a period of six months. reported the health inspector. Visitors to the beach, and campers In particular, had voiced complaints in connection with the nuisance caused by dogs on the beach, reported the Reserves Committee. After some discussion it was decided that instructiorts should be given to the borough solicitor to frame a bylaw prohibiting the presence of dogs on the beach. Tenders are to be called for the painting of the pavilion and shed at the domain, and eoncurrently for the painting of the roof of the library building. Instructions had been given for ihe painting of ar.gle parking lines in Main Street, which was now suitable for the purpose, reported the works committee. Arrangements also had been made for the establishment of a parking area on the town hall reserve in Napier Street, and culverts had been provided in Napier Street and King Street to provide access. Arrangements made in connection wjith a request from the Opunake District High School Committee for assistance with labour in the fprmation of a path at the school and with the removal of rubbish from road frontages were reported.
