WINDS FROM THE NORTH

Wellington, Last Night. The weather will be fair to fine east of the Southern Alps, but elspwhere cloudy to overcast and in place»misty, with rain in most districts, says the 5 p.m. forecast. Rain is expected, more especially in western and central areas, where further heavy falls are likely. Winds will be between north-east and north-west, moderate to strong from Nelson and Marlborough northwards and moderate but freshening thence southwards. Seas will be rough north of East Cape, south cf Cape Egmont and about Cook Strait, but elsewhere slight or riiod*erate. A complex depresslon lies over the centre of the Dominion, but pressure remains high to the east.
