WEST COUNTRY STORY.
"TOM JONES" COMIC OPERA. An entertaining programme is offered by the New Plymouth Choral Society foi its second- concert in St. Mary's hall on Tuesday, September 26, when Edward German's comic opera, "Tom Jones," will be sung. The story hts a distinctly West Country flavour which should appeal to residents of the New Plymouth district, many of whoss forebears carne from that part of England. There are hunting songs end Morris dance tunes and jigs, the famous waltz song, a "Zummerzet" niorning song, rcmance complications, the holding up of a conch by highwaymen, songs of soldiers marching to war, and the merry soi.nd of marriage bells. The work will be presented with a full choir and orchestra and a strong cast of srloists, including Mesdames I, V. Buchanan and Rugby Hawkins. Miss Eiva Crawshaw, Messrs. H. B. Robb and Len Kerr, and the whole performance will be uncler Ihe direction of Mr. R. Laurie Cooper. Tickets may be had from members of the choir and reservaiions may be made at Colliers.
