FLOWERS ON DISPLAY

WAITARA SPRING SHOW METHODIST EXHIBITION RESULTS OF JUDGING The spring flower show of the Methodist Church at Waitara was opened by the Mayor, Mr. J. P. Hughson, yesterday afternoon. In spite of the unfavourable season, there were many entries in all sections, some of the blooms being particularly fine. The produce stall, fancy stall, sweet stall, jumble stall and sewing stall all did brisk business and testified to the amount of work done by the members of the ladies' guild. The Rev. H. Ford introduced the Mayor and said he was glad to see such a good display of fiowers in spite of the many drawbacks, such as frost and hail. Mr. Hughson said that he took great pleasure in opening the show because he recognised the value of the work that had been done in propagating such beautiful flowers. That was one way to beautify the town and to encourage this he intended to glve prizes for the best flower and vegetable gardens. He also complimerited guild members on their well-stocked stalls and hoped that their efforts would bring in record returns. During the afternoon, tea was served by a women's committee and severdl competitions were held. The champion bloom was a St. Egwin Incomparabilis exhibited by Mrs. P. Milne, Kew Plymouth. The runner-up was an Alric Incomparabilis exhibited by Mr. L. Lewis, Eltham. The entries for the Allan Shield were dlfflcult to judge, only one point dividing the first and second awards. The winning six red cups was a beautiful exhibit, stated the judge. A feature of the show was a fine display of floral work exhibited by Miss Lucy Johnston, Waitara, which included bridal bouquets, debutante posy and wreaths. ' Results were:— DAFFODILS.
