SPECIAL ARMY SERVICE MANY AT NEW PLYMOUTH Forty-nine more volunteers enrolled in Taranaki yesterday for the special military force for home or overseas service. Thirty-three enlisted at New Plymouth, nine at Stratford and seven at Hawera. Considered a good average, 30 men from 48 were passed as fit by the medical board examining volunteers at Stratford yesterday. Four men were classified as totally unfit and 14 as temporarily unfit. The men examined and classified as totaliy unfit are suitable in every way for home defence or service in New Zealand end were not refused because of physical development. Men classified as tempor- | erily unfit included men who were dentally unfit or requiring adjustment to ! glesses or slight treatment for varicose veins. The meif passed as fit were physically and dentally fit. Dr. G. Walker, New Plymouth, Dr. D. [ Strang, Stratford, and Mr. Glover, Man- [ gatoki, comprised No. 1 medical board and Dr. D. Steven, Stratford, Dr. S. W. Crawford, Eltham, and Mr. J. B. CressV/ell comprised No. 2 medical board. During the day Dr. W. R. Wade, regimental superintendent, visited the Stratford . headquarters. The medical board will sit [again at Stratford next week to examine ; volunteers who have not yet come before it Recruits will be enlisted again to-day at the drill hall, New Plymouth, until 5 p.m, Medical and dental examinations will be conducted during the afternoon. j Further volunteers are:— !
