FARMERS HOLD SOCIAL r A combined social evening was held at Toko by the Young Farmers' Club and the Farmers' Union. Members of the . Women 's Division helped with supper. Dancing was enjoyed with euchre for non-dancers. During the evening prizes won in the recent farm competitions were presented. v The president of the union, Mr. T. T. Murray, in introducing Mr. Blake, of the Agricultural Department, spoke of the present crisis and wished the young men present every success at home or abroad. Mr. Blak^e congratulated the prizewinners and the district. He said that Toko had the highest average points of any district in the North Taranak' competitions. Prizes won were: — Farmers' Union: Swedes, Messrs. W. J. and P. E. Jbnes; ensilage, Mr. A. Marfell; mixed crop. Mr. H. Ancell; meadow hay, Mr. L. Marfell. Young Farmers: Points trophy for judging in all competitions, Mr. P. E. Jones'. The banner won by the Young Farmers' football team at the Waitara tournament was presented to the captain of the team, Mr. Bill Lester. Euchre prizewinners were Mrs. M. Murphy and Mr. B. Marfell. Presbyterian Church. The annual meeting of the Toko Presbyterian Church was held in the church, the Rev. Simpson presiding. Messrs. J. Weir and M. Urquhart reported ori the work of the Bible class and Sunday school. These reports and the manager's report were adopted. With the co-opera-tion of the Church of England it is hoped to metal the road to the church this summer. The following were elected managers: Mrs. Lees, Mrs. T. Weir, Miss Milne, and Messrs. J. Weir, G. Anderson, R. Sextus and T. Murray (secretary). There was an attendance of 20, including friends from Stratford. A vote of sympathy was passed with the minister, Mr. Paterson, in his illness.
