SYSTEMATIC BOMBING OTHER STATES ADVISED AMBASSADOR'S MESSAGE MANY INSTANCES CITED
London, bept, 15. The Polish Government has drawn the attention of the Governments of all civilised States to the bombing of open towns in Poland, stating that it is carried out systematically on places possessing no . military importance whatever. The Polish Embassy at London in a statement ' says Germans have systematically and ruthlessly bombed open towns since the invasion began. The statement details a list of 30 places that have been bombed since September 3 and adds: "During the last two days the Germans have begun methodical bombing of towns far from the battle zone. This barbarity is paralysing the life of the country." Instances Quoted, The United States Ambassador in his message to the State Department at Washington cited the following instances of bombing of open towns:— "Attacks made on my villa and those of my neighbours, a heavy attack on modern apartment buildings in the suburbs of Warsaw, the destruction of a sanatorium, involving the death of 10 children in the woods near Otwock, the bombing of a refugees' train on the way from Kutno, damage done to a hospital train carrying wounded soldiers, the train being plainly marked with a red cross on the roof and drawn up at the uncovered east station in Warsaw, and the destruction of a girl guide hut in which 12 girls were killed." Second Telegram. The Ambassador sent to the State Department a second telegram to-day from the Polish town where the embassy is now located. The department refused to reveal its name. The telegram read: "This place, a defenceless, open village, was bombed at 11 a.m. by a flight of four German planes which dropped at least 12 bombs not only on the outsklrts but along the main street 300 yards from this embassy and within even closer range of other missions as well as the Foreign Office. It was verified that the casuaities include 11 killed and 40 seriously Injured. Many business properties were damaged. The population was terrorised by the suddenness and unexpectedness of the raid."
