ELECTION OF OFFICERS

A large and enfhusdastic meeting was .held in the Soldiers' Club, Waitara, on Wednesday night to form a swimming and life-saving club. The Mayor, Mr. J. P. Hughson, presided and said he was pleased to learn that a swimming apd life-saving club was about to be formed. . Officers elected were: Patron, Dr. B. L. Barclay; president, Mr. W. Easton; vicepresidents, Mrs. Earp, Messrs. „F. Locke, F. J. Patterson, J. Dennis, J. P. Hughson, L. Andrews, G. Wright H. Jury; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. Barnard; . committee, Messrs. F. Cleary, H. Kettle, ' A. Roberts, J. Bristol, A. S. McGregor, T. Stockman, ' L. Andrews, Miss Ainsworth; women's committee, Mesdames W. Easton, L. Andrews, W. Trim, A. McNeill, Ainsworth, Miss Ainsworth, with power to add; club captain,. Mr. A, Roberts; : deputy captain, Mr. H. Kettle. ... Subscriptions were fixed as follows: Seniors, 5s; intermediate (over 15 and uuder 17), 3s; juniors (under 15), 2s 6d. Primary school children attending Waitara schools will be admitted free but restricted hours will be made during the holiday vacation.- Honorary members' subscriptions were fixed at 2s 6d. Mrs. Earp and Mr. Hughson were thahked for grants. Messrs. W. Easton, L. Andrews and F. Cleary were appointed to interview the school committee concerning arrangements for use of the baths. Ihe ' borough council is to he approached with reference to supply of water for the baths. The appointment of a custodian was left to the committee. It is the intention of the club to affiliate with the Taranaki Swimming Association, and Mr. A. S. McGregor was elected the club's delegate. Every possible assistance will bo given by members at the baths. during the learn-to-swim week. The baths will be open for members on Wednesday and Friday evenings in the meantime if the necessary arrangements are made with the school committee. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr. W. Easton was appointed chairman.
