GERMANY CONDEMNED

"A GODLESS GOVERNMENT" ENSLAVEMENT OF MAN

Rec. 7.10 p.m. Montreal, Nov. 30. "The actions of Herr Hitler in persecuting helpless minorities constitute a striking example of what a godless Government can do when it reverts to paganism," stated Cardinal Villeneuve, addressing the Board of Trade to-day. He condemned Nazism and Fascism as the enslavement of man. The church was not blind to the dangers of Fascism but, nevertheless, it was not fair to place Signor Mussolini and Herr Hitler on the same moral plane, especially since Mussolini's contribution at Munich was towards averting war. It was hot within the sphere of the church to condemn or approve any form

of Government, he sdded, but it was its fiuty to protast against any system of violating Christianity. Thus the church was neutral towards social credit and liberal and conservative parties. The rich and the poor must dwell xharmo'niously. If workers were enoouraged to look towards ownership the gulf between vast wealth and poverty would be partly bridged.
