HEALTH STAMP SALE
POSITION AT STRATFORD
MEETING OF COMMITTEE Stratford business men's contributions to the health camp stamp campaign were discussed by the Stratford' .committee last night, when two members of the committee who had canvassed the town reported on their work. Nearly every business man had • been approached by Mesdames Savage and Rowe, and £40 had been collected, it was stated. Smaller business houses had given more freely than scrnie of the larger. Those flrms whose headquarters were at Wellington or elsewher® had in several cases not been able to contribute because contributions had already been made by the head offices and instructions had been given to that effect. It was felt that this was not fair to the town. It was considered, too, that despite restrictions which might be imposed upon business houses it did not prevent business men from making personal contributions. Mesdames Savage and Rowe were thanked for their efforts. Arrangements were made for the collection of further funds. The Lowgarth branch of the W.D.P.U. had five canvassers ready, it was stated. . The branch was asked to proceed with the work of collection. The campaign would end on December 14. Other branches of the division were already engaged in canvassing work, it was stated. A shop day at Stratford was discussed, but it was decided that the canvassing that had already been done, together with the appeal to be made next week by postmen, was sufficient in the meantime. A shop day and street collection could perhaps be held early in the New Year. Two children from Central Taranaki would be going to the camp at Otaki shortly, it was stated. Those present were Mr. ,J. McAllister (chairman), Mesdames Savage, Rowe, Jolly, C. A. Himt end' Messrs. C. E. Scott, T. R. Anderson, L. Driver and Dr. C. R. Lambert.
